Story

Meet the eldest Wendy, middle-child John, and youngest Micheal as they join Peter Pan and his cheeky sidekick Tinkerbell. They assist Peter in locating his shadow before learning to fly in a series of breathtaking flying sequences. They also follow Peter and Tinkerbell to Neverland, traveling to the “second star to the right… and straight on ‘til morning”

The Lost Boys, a band of orphaned children who refuse to grow up, greet them and report to Peter about Hooks' encroaching pirate crew. The group share songs, games, and inventive play for days, but Captain Hook kidnaps Tiger Lily, enticing the Darlings, Peter Pan, and the Lost Boys to rescue her.

History

The 1904 original play that inspired the musical rendition plunged into complicated themes of boring adult responsibilities versus childhood innocence. The musical plays out with similar elements while adding enchantment and modern flair.

Iconic actress Mary Martin’s leading performance is an important part of the musicals widespread success. Her groundbreaking role as Peter Pan was a testament to progress at the time. The show continued claiming Tonys and a Drama Desk award from 1980 through 1999. The 1960 film recording would also enshrine the story and bring the musical to home televisions.
